If you're buying an Organic Bedroll you need one of our beautiful 100% organic and 100% washable covers. Not only do they make your Organic Bedroll look great, but they keep it clean. Let's face it, a bedroll is for the floor or camping, and will spend a good deal of time in a closet - locations that can quickly turn an ivory bedroll a bit more off-white than you wish.
Our covers are washer and dryer safe, 100% organic, and come with attached ties for easy storage
All of our decorative covers are made from 100% USDA and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified natural fibers. Feel confident that you are buying a product that is 100% organic and certified by two of the most stringent third parties. All of our covers are washer and dryer safe, but use cool temperature settings to prevent shrinkage.

Moisture, mildew, and dust mite resistant – as well as thermal regulating – Premium Organic Wool, a blend of wool gathered from eight different sheep breeds, creates a protective barrier around the organic cotton core of the Organic Cotton & Wool Futon, giving you a longer lasting mattress that is supremely comfortable.
Our futons are encased in 100% organic cotton twill.
Soaring Heart's Organic Cotton & Wool Futons make great organic mattresses for anyone who enjoys the classic firm feel of a futon or is trying to better utilize their space. An organic futon can fold, which make them perfect for studios, small apartments, multipurpose rooms, or a comfy, healthy guest bed (for use in a sofa set-up we recommend the Organic Cotton, Latex & Wool Futon, because the organic latex core reduces creasing where the futon folds – that “fold crease” can make other futons less comfortable when slept on). We recommend all futons and shikibutons be kept off the floor. Latex and innerspring mattress need to be kept on slats. Not keeping your latex or innerspring mattress on a slatted frame or foundation will void its warranty.
The more air that can circulate around all surfaces of your natural bed, the better. When not exposed to air, cotton can begin to mildew because the temperature difference between your body heat passing through the futon and the relative coldness of a non-breathable surface (the floor, solid plywood, etc...) can allow condensation to build up.
To prevent body moisture from getting into your bed (which can prematurely compress and harden the natural fibers and make your bed lumpy and uncomfortable), always sleep with one of our all natural organic cotton pads . Don't use a poly-blend pad. They aren't absorbent and can cause you to perspire more during sleep. Wash and dry your natural mattress pad with your sheets. Make sure the pad is completely dry before putting it back on your bed, and your mattress will stay clean and healthy for years to come.
Make sure your organic futon or shikibuton wears evenly (avoiding body impressions) by flipping and rotating it regularly, so you end up sleeping on all different parts of the bed equally. We recommend doing this once a week for the first month, then once every other week thereafter.
A couple times a year, on a sunny day, put your futon, shikibuton, or topper outside in the sun for an hour or two on each side. It's like giving your bed a natural dry-cleaning. The sun fluffs and revitalizes the fibers, discourages microbial growth, and evaporates any residual moisture. Does not apply to latex - latex can be deteriorated by sunlight.
Even if you lovingly follow all the steps listed above, there may come a day when your natural bed doesn't feel quite as comfortable as it originally did. In that case, feel free to click the button below to send us information about your product so we can schedule a revitalization time. Often times, all that's necessary to bring new life to your faithful futon is a few new layers of cotton or wool, and that can cost significantly less than a new bed. This service is for Seattle area residents only.

The Organic Cotton & Wool Shikibuton takes the traditional cotton shikibuton and goes it one better by adding a layer of insulating, moisture resistant and fluffy 100% organic wool while still utilizing the traditional Japanese construction methods established centuries ago.
The cotton and wool construction shares the same contemporary look, supportive feel, and versatility of our Organic Cotton Shikibuton, but has the added benefits of organic wool – moisture resistance, thermal regulation, and mildew resistance - creating a more comfortable sleep experience and a longer lasting bed (the wool acts as a protective layer around the cotton).
Our shikibutons are made from layers of 100% organic cotton and wool encased in 100% organic cotton twill and then hand-tufted for long lasting comfort.
Surprisingly lightweight at approximately four inches thick (we build by weight), our shikibutons are easily folded and stored to make better use of your space and are instantly available for overnight guests. And if you want to keep the versatility of the shikibuton but want a softer sleep experience, try layering two or more shikibutons on top of each other or adding a topper for a customized and customizable bed set-up.
Organic shikibutons work best when used with a Tatami Frame and Tatami Mat set-up, which best emulates the traditional tatami mat flooring used in Japan. Preferable to the floor or bed slats (slats can be felt through a single or even two shikibutons), tatami mats allow the shikibuton to rest on a flat, solid surface while still being able to properly breathe. Good ventilation will make your shikibuton last longer. For a truly traditional experience, match your new shikibuton with an Organic Buckwheat Pillow.
Our shikibutons, like all of Soaring Heart's mattresses, are made of only the highest quality materials using time-honored construction techniques. Your shikibuton should last you eight to ten years with proper maintenance (see care tab), although we have many customers who are still comfortably using Soaring Heart shikibutons bought fifteen years ago. I love my handcrafted, organic, cotton and wool shikibuton! It is very comfortable, healthy, beautiful and versatile. Since moving to an organic bed, I no longer wake up stiff, achy or congested. I now get a deep sleep and wake up rested, refreshed and rejuvenated. Combined with the organic deluxe wool topper and tatami mats, it is truly the best bed I have ever owned. Thank you Soaring Heart Natural Beds!

I'm in love with my new cotton/wool shikibuton! It has transformed my sleep experience. Thank you for making such high-quality, affordable products with so much heart!

I just got my shikibuton and love it! Thanks so much!
- Hannah Moore
Philosophically, I have changed my idea of comfort. Meaning this bed is not comfortable in the American traditional sense but in my idea of traditional sleep this hits the spot and is now very comfortable! I had some really bad SI joint problems that would leave me so locked up that getting out of my old bed was really a chore. This Shikibuton has been a major part in my arsenal to remedy my back problem and in general it fits my idea of simple living. Please let the company in some way know that I appreciate the work yall have done. Thank you again for getting me a deal on this shiki! I have recommended this to other friends.
- Nick
We purchased our first shikibuton, medium buckwheat pillows, mini buckwheat pillows, and wool mattress pad from Soaring Heart and we could not be happier! I did A LOT of research on shikibutons and somehow ended up on Soaring Heart. Not only are their online reviews fabulous but their customer service is phenomenal. We appreciate their ability to answer all our questions as well as their fabulous products. This is the best sleep we have ever had! We would highly recommend their shikbutons and pillows to everyone looking for great sleep that is good for the brain and body. The only thing we wish they had is a showroom in Minnesota!
Happy Holidays!

I just got my shikibuton and love it! Thanks so much!

Looking for the most luxurious organic futon out there? You found it. Our Organic Cotton Latex & Wool Futon layers organic cotton and wool around a supple, 100% organic, GOLS certified Dunlop latex core encased in organic cotton twill. The latex core gives the Organic Cotton Latex & Wool Futon unprecedented comfort and contouring in a futon style mattress and is hand-tufted for superior longevity. This is not your parents’ futon.
These are, quite simply, the ideal mattresses for anyone who prefers a soft, yet supportive bed and/or is trying to better utilize their space. An organic futon can fold into a couch or lounger, which makes them perfect for studios, small apartments, multipurpose rooms, or a healthy and comfy guest bed. And our Organic Cotton, Latex & Wool Futon is the best organic futon to use in a sofa set-up - the organic latex core reduces creasing where the futon folds; creases can make futons less comfortable when slept on.
All Soaring Heart organic futons are handmade from only the highest quality organic materials using time honored techniques practiced, honed and perfected over the past 30 years. You can expect your new organic futon to last you anywhere from eight to fifteen years, depending upon how well you maintain it. Futons require occasional flipping so that they wear evenly.
At full, original loft, the layers of cotton, latex and organic wool that make up each Soaring Heart futon measure 24” tall, give or take, only compressing down to the more familiar seven inches after passing through the skilled hands of our craftspeople. Once slept on for a while, your new organic futon will settle down to six or seven inches. To see measurements, click the size guide button above.

Did you know that you lose about a pint of moisture every single night? Some of that is released in our breath, but most of it is sweat and body oil and it goes straight down, into your mattress. Unpleasant right?
Organic Cotton Mattress Pad (Sold as single count) are made from GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)certified fair trade organic cotton. They act as a barrier against sweat, body oils, accidents, and spills by absorbing the moisture before it reaches your mattress. You can't throw your mattress or mattress topper in the washing machine, but you can wash the Organic Cotton Mattress Pad. By using a mattress pad you are keeping your mattress clean, preserving the materials and craftsmanship, and potentially doubling its lifespan. How important do we think using an all natural or organic mattress pad is? Our 20 Year Warranty is contingent upon you owning and using one. Protect your peace of mind and your investment with an Organic Cotton Mattress Pad.
Why go all natural or organic? Simple, synthetic materials—such as polyester—reflect body heat and raises your body temperature, which makes you sweat more. This can make sleeping uncomfortable for you, your partner, and leaves a clammy feeling in the morning. Cotton absorbs sweat and body moisture naturally, cooling your body and reducing sweating and clamminess.
Need extra protection? People with pets, children, or who like having a nice cup of tea or coffee in bed may want extra protection to guard against spills. In these cases we always recommend layering a cotton mattress pad (organic or natural will both do fine) and an Organic Wool Mattress Pad. Cotton absorbs moisture and wool repels and wicks moisture away. When used in concert, an Organic Wool Mattress Pad underneath a cotton mattress pad, they can block up to a cup of liquid.

Caring for a Soaring Heart Organic Latex Mattress is easy.
• Keep your mattress on a slatted crib frame off the ground. This provides proper ventilation, stopping moisture buildup.
• Flip your mattress monthly.
• Always use a mattress pad. The mattress pad protects the mattress from body moisture, spills and accidents. You can clean a mattress pad and a moisture barrier, but you can't clean a mattress. Please note that the cotton encasement of our mattress is a part of the mattress: it is not a removable cover, and should not be washed.

Crafted from the finest materials, organic latex, organic wool, and organic cotton, these mattresses will keep your baby as healthy as they are comfortable.
All of our crib mattresses are made of extra firm latex that safely supports your baby and contain absolutely no chemical fire retardants. Our crib mattresses are designed for a slatted crib. Our mattresses have passed all flame retardants laws using a proprietary needle punched wool.
When we say all natural and organic, we mean it. Since 1982 Soaring Heart Natural Bed Company has been making mattresses and bedding using time-tested techniques, honed and polished over three decades. Soaring Heart makes everything by hand and uses only the highest quality, certified organic, materials available.
Soaring Heart works closely with our suppliers. We travel to their operations, getting to know them and their materials. We collaborate with our suppliers so we can meet and exceed our exacting standards. We take huge pride in our products and in all the people behind them.
It's because of these special relationships with our suppliers and their wonderful organic wool, organic latex, organic cotton and their commitment to upholding organic certifications that we aren’t forced to spoil our products with chemicals or synthetics. No Soaring Heart product has any chemical-based foam or synthetic fire retardants whatsoever.
Our latex is made from pure rubber tree sap. We use organic wool as our fire barrier, and it is selected from only the finest sheep farms in New Zealand. Our cotton is 100% organically grown in the cotton fields of Texas. Nothing but good, honest organic materials provided by good, honest people.
We are very proud that our latex used in mattresses, pillows and more is >95% organic; GOLS certified.
Crib mattresses are 285/8" x 523/8" x 31/2" and fit all standard cribs.

Our 100% Dunlop Latex Mattress needs air circulation. Whether that is in the form of a slatted frame/ foundation or Tatami Mats, we ask that you keep the mattress off the floor and prevent it from getting wet and staying wet.
Not only is Dunlop latex extremely resilient and flexible, it is also designed to be sturdy for long periods of time. Most of our mattresses really do last for 20+ years without taking an impression and customers are overjoyed with their purchase.
Our Firm Latex Mattress has an ILD range (Indentation Load Deflection) of 28-32. This is the industry standard for a Firm Mattress. Most average size adults find the Extra Firm Mattress to be too firm and the Soft to have too much of a sinking feeling which is why suggest adding a topper to the mattress to find your perfect comfort zone.

Mattress toppers are designed to be fluffy and soft and therefore are susceptible to compression. Flip your mattress topper every other week (whenever you change your sheets) for long lasting comfort.

A modern twist on the Japanese classic, the Organic Latex Shikibuton perfectly blends the versatile, minimalist shikibuton with the supple comfort of 100% organic Dunlop latex wrapped in 100% organic wool and cotton twill.
This shikibuton is great for apartments or for people who love the feel of latex but don't want a larger traditional mattress. Surprisingly lightweight and only four inches thick, our shikibutons are easily folded and stored to make better use of your space or be available when guests are in town.
If you want to keep the versatility of the shikibuton, but want a softer sleep experience, try layering two or more shikibutons on top of each other or add a topper for a customized and customizable bed set-up. We recommend a Latex Shikibuton with an Organic Cotton Shikibuton on top of it and capped off with an Organic Latex Topper.
Your shikibuton should last you eight to ten years with proper maintenance, although we have many customers who are still comfortably using Soaring Heart shikibutons bought fifteen years ago.
I got the organic latex shikibuton and the wool mattress pad. Love them both. The only problem I have is I now don't want to get up in the morning because I am too comfortable. Rob was great every step of the way-helping me with shipping to Alaska, which is a feat in itself sometimes.
Thank you!

Clearance items are sold "as is" and are nonreturnable and nonrefundable. These almost-perfect items have all the same comfort and luxury our products are known for, but don't quite measure up to our exacting standards. All are made with the same high-quality materials and superior handcrafting you expect from us. What makes an item a clearance item? In the majority of cases, it’s what we refer to as a “small fabric defect” - a slight imperfection in the weave or speck of discoloration or other mark that found its way on to the fabric. Barely noticeable, and with no effect on usability, comfort, or durability. We’re picky, so what we catch during production may not even be noticeable to you. Once inside a duvet cover or pillow case, no one will know that bedding you’re getting a great deal on is anything less than perfect.Made from 100% organic and washable cotton sateen, there is no better cover for your organic nursing pillow and you won't want anything less for your baby. Give your arms and your baby a rest with our 100% certified organic wool nursing pillow. The Organic Nursing Pillow's specially designed crescent shape allows it to wrap comfortably around your waist, supporting your baby in the proper position for nursing.
The Organic Nursing Pillow transitions beautifully as your baby grows to an excellent pillow for propping and securely sitting.
The Organic Nursing Pillow is not only 100% organic, but 100% machine washable. Our organic wool bolus is pre-felted, which means it won't mat when washed. Wool is moisture resistant and naturally thermal regulating, staying cool in summer and warm in winter. Fits most standard covers, and fits perfectly in our Nursing Pillow Cover.
Our latex is made from pure rubber tree sap, we use organic wool as our fire barrier and it is selected from only the finest sheep farms in New Zealand, and our Cotton is 100% organically grown in the cotton fields of Texas. Nothing but good, honest organic materials provided by good, honest people.
All Soaring Heart Products are 100% GOTS & GOLS certified and we are very proud that our latex mattresses are made with Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified latex.
What could be better than a 100% organic wool nursing pillow made using only the purest wool from small farms along the California and Oregon coasts? How about an organic wool nursing pillow you can wash? Organic wool bolus—small pea-sized pellets of wool—is incredibly malleable, forming to the shape of your baby and supporting them as they nurse. Spot clean with enzyme cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, or rubbing alcohol, and air dry only.
