If you prefer sleeping on a wool pad instead of cotton, you're in luck! Our 100% organic wool mattress pads are lovely when used either alone or in conjunction with one of our cotton mattress pads.
Why use a wool pad under a cotton pad, you ask? Insurance! Our wool pads can be helpful in providing a protective moisture barrier for your bed. Where cotton is very liquid-absorbent, wool is very liquid-repellent, and for co-sleeping families, people with heavy perspiration, or households with pets that like to sleep on the bed, a wool mattress pad can buy some extra time and prevent accidents from seeping into the bed itself.
Wool pads are most effective when used under a cotton pad. In tests we've run at the store, we've found that when a stream of water is poured on the wool pad by itself, the force of the water can push the liquid through the wool fairly easily. But when the same amount of liquid is poured onto a layered set of a cotton pad and a wool pad, the force of the poured liquid was dispersed enough that no liquid went through the wool at all - we even let the pads sit overnight!
These pads also have no elastic or skirt to fuss with. Simply lay them flat on the bed, cover them with a fitted sheet or a cotton mattress pad and a fitted sheet, and you're done!
The pads are cut a few inches longer and wider than standard bed sizes so they'll shrink to fit upon the first washing. Wash in cold water only, and tumble dry on lowest heat or hang dry.
Pads are approximately 1/8" thick.
