Great for toddlers and tweens, our 6" cotton futons are an affordable way to create a healthy sleeping environment for your kids.

Our simple yet versatile 6" Cotton or 6" Cotton & Wool futons have long been the most popular choice when it comes to picking out a child's first "big kid" bed. They're inexpensive and time-tested (we've made them for over 27 years), and they're rebuildable over time. Plus, they're low profile and easily movable which makes them perfect for bunk beds!

The firm, sturdy support of cotton is ideal for growing bones, yet is soft enough for small bodies to feel snuggly. Plus, the superior breathability of cotton is great for dispelling the extra heat generated by rapidly growing little bodies as they sleep.

Grown conventionally, yet minimally processed, our standard cotton batting is misted lightly with mineral oil to keep dust to a minimum, and sprinkled with boric acid powder (a natural mineral salt) which acts as a non-chemical flame retardant as well as a mold, mildew, and microbe inhibitor. The layers of batting are cross-layered for extra durability, then zipped into an untreated 100% cotton case.

Our organic option contains only organically grown cotton batting which has no mineral oil or boric acid powder added, and is zipped into a 100% organic, untreated cotton case.

Either of these options can be made with a layer of EcoWool (a blend of wool that is 75% certified organic and 25% non-certified organic) surrounding the cotton. The EcoWool layer adds a bit of extra softness, allows for even more air circulation, and dissuades dust mites. We think wool is wonderful!

To prevent against accidents and leaks, be sure to also purchase a 100% Cotton Mattress Pad (or two!). And for the most moisture protection, use

underneath the cotton one to repel any liquid that manages to get through. Your child's bed will stay dry and healthy - without the use of plastics or laminates so commonly found in leak-proof bedding.

Important note about organic all-cotton mattresses:
***In order to comply with Federal law
(16 CFR part 1633), we need to have a prescription from your physician (which includes the doctor's name, contact information, and license number) stating that you require a bed without any flame retardants before we can release an organic all-cotton futon to you. It's a strange loophole, but a necessary one. Please be prepared to provide us with that document when you purchase your bed. You may fax it to us or scan the original and email it to us, but we must have a visual representation of the document on file before we can let you take the futon home. Organic cotton futons that also contain wool do not require a prescription, though.***
