For a bed that can take a child from toddler to teenager and beyond, the clear choice is latex.
A latex bed may seem rather extravagant for a child, but when you consider that latex is naturally dust mite resistant, naturally changes its support to fit growing bodies, and can last for 20 years or more without any change in firmness or quality, we think it's well worth the initial cost. In fact, the latex bed you buy for your child today can easily be the only bed they'll ever need until they're fully grown!
Our Classic Latex Mattress is quite simple, really; it's a single block of blended Talalay-process latex (20% natural/80% synthetic) wrapped in thin layers of EcoWool and organic cotton textiles (the addition of these layers makes the bed flame retardant), and enclose the whole thing in a 100% cotton case.
Natural Classic Latex Mattress The natural version of our Classic Latex Mattress is made in a similar manner, but for the Natural Classic we use natural Dunlop-process latex and a 100% organic cotton case.
Our Quilted Latex option is made with natural Talalay-process latex on the inside and is then covered in a luxurious quilted case made entirely from organic cotton and organic wool, so it looks as good as it feels!
None of our latex mattresses are made with chemical additives or flame retardants of any kind.
We suggest starting out with just the latex mattress itself for young children and adding one of our snuggly Wool Toppers for extra comfort and softness as they grow older.
For suggestions on how to choose which is right for you, see our Natural Bedding Guide, or visit the main Latex Beds section of this site (although if you're short on time, we can say without a doubt that the most popular choice is the Firm Classic Latex).
To prevent against accidents and leaks, be sure to also purchase a 100% Cotton Mattress Pad (or two!). And for the most leak protection, use our 100% Organic Wool Mattress Pad underneath the cotton one to repel any liquid that manages to get through. Your child's mattress will stay dry and healthy - without the use of plastics or laminates so commonly found in accident-proof kids' bedding.
