Through our years of helping people use their beds as powerful tools for improving their lives through healthier, more beneficial sleep, we've come to see ourselves not so much as manufacturers of a product but rather as servants of the human community. As such, our advertising has tended to function more like public service announcements than anything else. Here are some samples of our ads from the last 26 years.

“Hello. This is Douglas MacQuarrie from Soaring Heart Futon Company. Over the last three years, you have been listening to me talk about the merits of sleeping on a futon.
“Now I want you to really hear me. Not just listen to me, but hear me, all the way to your heart. This is very important.
“We are all waking up. We are waking up to the beautiful moment. We're finding that any time we're in the dead past, or the non-existent future, it hurts. When we find ourselves awake in the present moment, we are alive. Fully alive. As you have experienced, it is very hard to stay awake in that moment.
“Which brings me to the subject of futons. The futon is just a tool. The futon offers not only the body, but the whole being, dynamic rest. From that dynamic rest comes dynamic a-wake-ness. In the beautiful moment.”
“Hello this is Douglas MacQuarrie from Soaring Heart Futon and Natural Bed Company. We build futons and box spring and mattresses out of organic cotton, wool and latex foam rubber.
“If you own a futon or natural bed, even if it is not ours, the single most important thing you can do for it, to protect it, is to use a 100% cotton mattress pad. NOT a 100% cotton poly one. Read the label. Polyester mattress pads do not hold moisture.
“We all lose about a pint of moisture when we sleep. It is actually toxins leaving the body in the form of moisture. The cotton mattress pad acts as a buffer zone between the body and the mattress. Think of your natural bed as a sponge, as long as it is dry it will hold its structural integrity and as soon as it gets wet, it loses it.
“So not only is it important that you use a 100% cotton mattress pad, but that you use it and wash it and dry it every time you wash your sheets. If you don't wash it regularly it will reach a place that it is holding so much moisture that it lets it go into the mattress.

“Hello. This is Doug MacQuarrie from Soaring Heart Futon Company. I hope that my sometimes unconventional advertisements have at least sparked an interest in you to explore the next time you buy a bed, the possibility of getting a futon.
“Now, I'm going to share with you, how to find the perfect futon. And again, I might add, it might not be our futon. All we ask is to be considered in your process. First, take the time to go out and get as much objective information as you can. Ask questions. Ask lots of questions. Remember, it's a third of your life. So be picky. Ask how much they cost. Just like any other product, you get exactly what you pay for. The most important thing to do is to take the time to lie on them, they're all going to feel differently. In the end, trust your feelings. Completely.

“Hello. This is Douglas MacQuarrie from Soaring Heart Futon Company. I presume over the last four years of listening to my ads on Futons that you've noticed that they have become less and less an ad for our product. But more and more a public forum in support of a non-competitive non-manipulative business philosophy.
“Our hope and dream would be that other businesses would be influenced by our stance in the market place. We strongly feel that the more we support the community, the more the community will support us. It's that simple.
“Please get a futon. Even if it's not our futon. Soaring Heart Futon is located at 101 Nickerson two blocks from the Fremont Bridge on the Queen Anne side. Our telephone number is 282-1717. 282-1717. I love you. Thank you.”

“I am Douglas MacQuarrie from Soaring Heart Futon and Natural Bed Company. I want you to visualize something for a moment. Visualize yourself wearing a lime green polyester suit. Do you have that picture?
“Now, why are you wearing cotton and wool right now and not polyester? Because the cotton and the wool feel good on your body and the polyester felt bad. Think about it. Your bed is just like your clothing. It is time to be done with polyester. Your body will tell you how happy it is.
“So the next time you consider a bed, think about us at Soaring Heart Futon and Natural Bed Company. We build futons and box spring and mattresses out of 100% organic cotton, wool, and latex foam rubber. Your body will thank you.
