Our Team

"Soaring Heart seems to have a mind of its own. It has always drawn to itself the kinds of people that it needs to help it grow. In more than 25 years, we have only advertised for employees twice. When it's time, the right beings always seem to arrive."

- Douglas MacQuarrie, Founder

When we say we're a small company, we mean it! We have a total of thirteen members in our little Soaring Heart family (fifteen, if you count our canine friends). Not pictured in this photo are two of our talented seamstresses and longest-term employees, sisters Re and Le.

April's employee spotlight is on:

Jason Goessl - general manager

Jason is the quintessential Jack-of-all-trades here at Soaring Heart. He started out 10 years ago as a builder in the workshop, moved his way up to production manager, became assistant store manager in charge of shipping & deliveries, and for the last 3 years has been running the whole show, creating lasting bonds with customers and vendors alike, and constantly figuring out how to best develop our beds.

An accomplished guitarist, Jason is founder and member of several acclaimed local music groups, including electronic atmospheric outfit Obelus, and moody surf-pop duo Slow Skate, for which his wife Caitlin is lead vocalist, pianist, and songwriter. Jason also contributes his guitar skills to a handful of other artists' musical projects as well as producing and recording bands in his spare time (of which there isn't much!).

Jason and Caitlin, who hail from Minnesota and California, respectively, live and create music in a converted guest house/music studio in the Wedgewood area of Seattle with their newest addition to the family, a Corgi puppy named Emmylou.

March's employee spotlight is on:

Joseph Ginapp - assistant production manager

Joe has been building futons, toppers, and pillows here in our workshop for going on four years now, and he's truly a master of the art and craft of bed-building.

Also a talented visual artist, Joe draws inspiration for his large format, mixed media paintings and drawings from tattoo artistry, street culture, and Japanese manga as well as traditional Asian art.

In his spare time, Joe is an avid hiker and snowboarder, and on nice days and weekends he can always be found on a mountain trail in the woods with a well-stocked backpack and his girlfriend Natalie.

Joe and Natalie are currently in the midst of renovating their first home together in the Central District, where they live with their three cats, Abby, Dexter, and Daisy.

February's employee spotlight is on:

Jeff Greenwood - lead sales

After building futons in our workshop for several years, Jeff recently decided to move into the front room and help customers directly as our newest full time salesperson.

Like many of our team, outside of Soaring Heart Jeff is a musician and spends his free time playing guitar in local favorite rock-band-with-a-sense-of-humor, "A Gun That Shoots Knives". He also enjoys monkeys and apes, subversive web cartoons, banjo, and chicken pot pies.

Jeff has lived in various places up and down the west coast of the US - and a stint in Arkansas - and currently resides in the Wallingford area of Seattle with his wife, Lindsay, and their pet sock monkey, Hector.

January's employee spotlight is on:

Josh Martin - webmaster/visual merchandising/sales

A former professional movie makeup artist in Los Angeles, Josh moved to Seattle in 2004 to pursue a slower-paced life outside of "The Industry." He joined the Soaring Heart family after working at another local institution, Mr Spot's Chai House. Ballard residents may remember him as the flamboyant guy with blue dreadlocks behind the espresso machine. Ring any bells?

In addition to his proclivity for unusual hair configurations (did you get a load of that goatee?), Josh is a photographer specializing in huge, abstract, fine art prints, several of which can be seen on the walls at Soaring Heart. He spends his free time obsessing over outer space and pop culture, coveting everything he sees on interior design and architecture blogs, volunteering at a West Seattle cat rescue, and listening to a zillion different podcasts in an effort to become a better critical thinker.

Josh lives in the Central District of Seattle in a perpetually-being-remodeled condo with his partner, Skyler and their goofy kitty, JJ.
